The Canadian Printable Electronics Industry Association and the Continental Automated Buildings Association have signed a memorandum of understanding.
The CPEIA is the united voice of Canada’s Printable Electronics sector, dedicated to bringing the creators of printable electronics (PE) technologies together with potential end-users, to commercialize new PE-enabled products and applications. Within 100 days of launch, it has secured 36 members, including SMEs, R&D organizations, universities, large multinationals, end-users and service providers.
CABA is an international industry association dedicated to the advancement of intelligent home and intelligent building technologies. Its membership includes almost 400 companies involved in the design, manufacture, installation and retailing of products relating to home automation and building automation.
“CABA members are the kinds of end users we want to reach as we work to educate the market on the potential for PE, and play the role of matchmaker to create new partnerships with strong commercial potential between Canadian and international organizations,” said Peter Kallai, Executive Director for CPEIA. “We look forward to a mutually rewarding relationship.”
There are a number of PE applications that may be of interest to CABA members, thanks to the low-cost, high-volume manufacturing processes that can be used to produce PE components. These include PE based photovoltaic energy collection, flexible and large-area lights, flexible and large-surface heating elements, PE-based large-area displays, or even simple PE touch pads as replacements for traditional switches.
“The future of building automation and intelligent buildings lies with innovative and economical solutions that can make buildings smarter, user-centric, greener, more efficient and less costly to operate,” said Ronald J. Zimmer, CABA President & CEO. “PE definitely has a significant role to play in evolving this industry with new products and applications. We welcome the opportunity to work together with the CPEIA and its members.”
The MOU is a non-financial commitment between the two organizations to collaborate on a number of initiatives over the next two years. These include educational events such as webinars, working groups that will develop white papers, and assistance to help members secure funding from external sources for development and commercialization activities.
