DfR Mistakes Made by System Designers
January 5, 2009 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
System designers are constantly expected to do more with less. In this rush to meet customer requirements, common and costly hardware design mistakes are often made. Examples include capacitor selection, component placement, board layout, solder finish selection and specifications, and even understanding the role design plays in ensuring long-term reliability. In this presentation with voiceover from EKTN's "Bending the Design Rules" conference held in the UK, Dr. Craig Hillman of DfR Solutions presents case studies of some common and not-so-common mistakes, and explains why they cause failure. Craig also provides a checklist to avoid these mistakes, why these mistakes caused failures, and optimized corrective actions necessary to avoid these problems.
