The Gold Record -- Last Lam Standing

I recently had the opportunity to tour Copper Clad Multilayer Products. During the tour, co-founder Bill Schwerter discussed the technology and talent required to manufacture laminate panels today in North America. The business has changed greatly over the years--and not just because of the attrition. It seems mass lam in North America has finally evolved into "custom lam." CCMP no longer churns out "one size fits all" panels like it did in its glory days; on the contrary, they are mirroring the quick-turn, seemingly endless part numbers that their customer base embraces. They are forced to move into higher layer counts and doing the "dirty work" that many fabricators can't or don't want to do.As you watch this video interview, not only will you see some of what I saw on the CCMP tour, but you'll also get a glimpse of the passion Schwerter has for his business. He's not proud of being the "last lam standing," but he is willing to do whatever it takes to remain a mass lam supplier long after his competition faded.
