December 14, 2006 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
Matsushita Electric Works Ltd (MEW) recently held the grand opening ceremony of Panasonic Electric Works Electronic Materials (Suzhou) Co. Ltd, its new subsidiary for manufacturing multilayer PCB materials in Suzhou, China.
Representatives from the City of Suzhou, the Suzhou New District and a number of other local interested parties are slated to attend the ceremony was received by MEW President Koichi Hatanaka, Overseas Business Executive Managing Director Koji Tanaka, and Executive Managing Director and General Manager of Electronic and Plastic Materials Munetomo Torii.
This plant will be the 18th manufacturing subsidiary of MEW (and the second laminate manufacturing base following the one in Guangzhou) in China. The Electronic and Plastic Materials Division alone has been operating three plants in China, namely, the Paper Phenol Copper Clad Laminates and Printed Circuit Boards plants in Suzhou and the Encapsulation materials plant in Shanghai. With East China witnessing remarkable development of the electronics industries including the cellular phones and consumer electronics industries, a further increase in supply capacity has been strongly urged by its market. The plant will boost the supply of laminates by 2.4 million sq. m. annually. Since the demand for halogen-free environmentally friendly materials is particularly strong in this area, MEW will ride on the strength of its halogen-free materials and expand its production to increase the sales of the Electronic and Plastic Materials business from current JPY 17 billion/year to JPY 24 billion/year by 2010.
