Rigid-flex printed circuit boards are used everywhere in the electronics industry. They can be found in digital cameras, hearing aids, pacemakers, health trackers, and many more products.

A rigid-flex design typically consists of multiple inner layers of flexible circuits, in addition to the rigid regions typical to everyday PCBs. This unique form introduces a distinct set of design challenges.

This video from Mentor Graphics will demonstrate how correct-by-construction design technology simplifies the creation process of rigid-flex circuits, allowing designers to focus on optimizing form factor and quality.

With the current design transfer formats, rigid-flex designers face a hand-off conundrum. You know the situation: My rigid-flex design is done so now it is time to get this built and into the product. Reviewing the documentation reveals that there are tables to define the different stackup definitions used in the design. The cross-references for the different zones to areas of the design are all there, I think. The last time a zone definition was missed, we caused a costly mistake.
